This course has been developed for those wishing to pursue a career to work in the salon or clinic at a more advanced level. Skills acquired will allow you to work at a senior level whether in the salon or looking to work within a clinic setting. In recent years the Aesthetic industry has grown immensely with changes to course frameworks within the U.K, due to industry demands.

At ESA we offer various courses at level 4, however this particular course will give you the tools to further advance your skill set enabling you to move to other aesthetic type practices such as IPL/laser at level 4 & 5 respectively. This course offers a stepping stone in attaining those protocols sought in our current industry. The course is a demanding one which requires dedication to meet the time frame for which it is set. The protocols meet standards which are taught by way of assignments, oral questions. practical assessments; both formative and summative. Embedded within the course are other additional aesthetic techniques which allow the learner to become more advanced in their approach to treatments.


The course contains various elements such as microneedling and skin peels and dermaplaning which act as prerequisites to other courses for non-medics. For medics, who do not hold an aesthetic skin certification, it will give invaluable experience to those that want to increase their knowledge and skills of the skin care protocols used in industry.

This course runs over a duration of 16-24 weeks with both home study and classroom learning 1 day per week, which can and can be modified due to student time constraints. Course work is by way of live class participation for both theory and practical assessment. There is an aspect of online activity which allows students to study and participate at their own pace.

The course starts off with reviewing the skin anatomy, taking you through protocols for skin analysis and skin care using cosmeceuticals, from there we study the following elements -

VTCT certificate in Advanced Therapies -

  • Advanced skin analysis

  • Cosmeceuticals

  • Management of health, safety and security in the salon.

  • Physiology of ageing

  • Quality management of client care

  • Salon management

  • Chemistry of and products

  • Dermatology

  • Microbiology


  VTCT (ITEC) Advanced Skin Peeling – Using both level 1 & 2 peel systems

  • Principles and practice of non-medical aesthetic

  •  Advanced consultation for non-medical aesthetic

  •  Advanced skin care for non-medical aesthetic

  •  Provide skin peeling treatments (external End test both theory & practical)



VTCT (ITEC) Skin Needling & mesotherapy - Using both roller and dermapen

  • Principles and practice of non-medical aesthetic

  •  Advanced consultation for non-medical aesthetic

  •  Advanced skin care for non-medical aesthetic

  •  Provide cosmetic skin needling treatments (external End test both Theory & practical)

  • Mesotherapy techniques using Meso products, their uses for skin conditions

  • Introduction to Intradermal mesotherapy

  • Introduction to Platelet Rich Plasma therapy



VTCT Advanced Blemish removal - Using thermolysis

  • Advanced epilation techniques (telengiestasia, spider naevi, campbell de Morgan, skin tags and warts)

  • VTCT (ITEC) Level 4 certificate in Radio Frequency – includes Cavitation and LED

  • Principles and Practice of aesthetic therapies

  • Advanced consultation for aesthetic therapies

  • Advanced skin care for aesthetic therapies

  • Provide Radio frequency


VTCT First Aid - (At ESA we include, AED, anaphylactic shock, burns, choking, seizures, electrical incidents,

 accident recording and COSHH)

  • Emergency First Aid in the workplace

  • Recognition and management of illness and injury in the workplace


*For those looking to add the additional awards that pertain to aesthetic industry may wish to enrol for one or more of the following below. Theses courses will be available to the student at the end of the course and can be added to their Diploma; gaining additional CPD.

  • VTCT Level 4 in laser and Intense pulse light

  • Dermaplaning

  • VTCT level 3 Anatomy & Physiology

How you will be assessed?

Theory assessment is through ongoing assignments, most of which will be submitted to your student portal.

Practical observation and assessment takes place at the school by your tutor, however aspects the practical can be completed as distance learning.

Some of your practical will be spent in the clinic shadowing and working with clients.

On completion students are awarded VTCT & ESA certification


End Test -

  • 1 External Theory assessment which covers part of the advanced therapies section.

  • 1 external theory and practical assessment for both skin peels and skin needling

  • 1 External theory and practical assessment for radio frequency


Entry Requirements

  • Level 3 or similar

  • HND Beauty Therapy

  • Medical qualification

  • Anatomy & Physiology qualification (Can be embedded with level 3/HND beauty courses)

  • Students should be over 16

  • Students should possess a good command of English

  • Students should have a satisfactory level of education



  • 10 - 12 days class - 9am - 5pm, ongoing home study

  • Length of course approx. 16-24 weeks.

  • VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments

  • VTCT Level 4 Award in Laser and Light Treatments for Skin Rejuvenation

  • VTCT Level 4 Award in Laser and Light Treatments for Hair Reduction

  • VTCT Level 4 Award in Physiology for Advanced Beauty Therapy

  • VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management

  • VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Beauty Therapy


Other level 4 and above modalities offered in industry.


Deposit is £0, deductible from the Total Course Fee amount.

Includes VTCT registration fee, exam/assessment fee, learning pack.

Course payments must be made in full before awarding the certificate can be fulfilled.
